There were a lot of illustrators of fairy tales and children’s books in the early 20th century, and in particular many interesting authors and illustrators from central and eastern Europe. More often than not, they put what passes for children’s illustrations today to shame. Here, I collect some of them that interest me that they not be forgotten, and that we may feed our famished aesthetic senses and bring new beauties from the old to our present moment.
