About Me

I am a software developer at Populi, based in Moscow, ID. I am concerned about AI, and especially how Christians seem to misapprehend the situation around it. I also play bass in the local symphony, teach music and Latin, and am working on my M.A. in theology.

About the Website

I built this website using Hugo, based on the minimal risotto theme by joeroe. At this point, not a lot remains of that original theme appearance-wise, though I am endebted to it for the file structure and teaching me how to build my own Hugo theme.

This site uses minimal JavaScript (about 31 lines total), both because I didn’t want to have to learn JavaScript and because I think it (or rather its overuse) contributes to modern web bloat. To that end, this site is built with pretty much just HTML/CSS. My favorite computer I have ever owned is a Thinkpad X230 with a minimal Artix install. I want my website to be similarly streamlined.

I have been greatly influenced by the website styling of LessWrong and Gwern’s personal site, and I have shamelessly aped some of their design features to the best of my nascent ability.

Contents

I created this site to publish my writings and to be useful to people. Given that, the contents will generally reflect what I am interested in/researching at a given time, and whatever I think is useful to people.

Design

This website uses the Brill typeface, which is free for individual use.

I also incorporate a few uncommon stylistic conventions, such as:

  • Sidenotes on wide viewports

    • Articles with 9 or fewer notes use daggers (*, †, ‡, etc.)
    • Articles with 10 or more use numbered notes
  • Dropcaps for articles

  • Fleurons and stylized dividers, mostly taken from the Wikimedia Commons

Publishing

I write all of my posts in Emacs org-mode and convert to Hugo-compatible markdown with ox-hugo.
